I once worked for a savvy businessman. He had a knack for bringing in large contracts, however, he was really poor when it came to making key decisions, managing his emotions and leading the management team. It was really frustrating to work without clear direction and with the erratic emotions when he showed up late to work, sometimes not showing up at all, being distracted during meetings, only to learn later it had to do with some personal squabbles.
In hindsight, I now realise that what I was experiencing was the effects of a leader who was insecure, not self-aware, not able to regulate his emotions, and who battled self-doubt. The truth is that we all experience self-doubt, and will second guess ourselves, wondering if we made the right decision. We may experience situations that we feel are unfair and go off on a rant. This is all normal.
The important thing is to never spend too much time in this state of self-doubt, second-guessing ourselves and being in our feelings. Spend time with ourselves, understand what we like, what we want, what we feel, why we react in certain ways, basically, get reacquainted with ourselves, because who we were a few years back, is not who we are today. When we become self-aware, we generally have a sense of what we want to work on, particularly in the areas we discover we want to pursue for the future we want.
This is why it is important to make investment in our personal growth a priority! Engaging coaches and mentors who can help us grow and develop is no longer a luxury but a necessity if we are to attain our life and business goals. There’s something about investing in personal growth that makes us not only more competent, but also more confident. If you’re struggling with self-doubt especially in business and experience lack of confidence as an entrepreneur, make a decision to invest in a coaching program for entrepreneurs, where you will not only grow in community, but also build up your business, and your confidence.
