The Greatest Obstacle to Transitioning into Entrepreneurship

Growing up, whenever we were around older relatives and family friends, the question that we were frequently asked was what we wanted to be when we grow up! At a young age, our responses were influenced by our exposure and what was acceptable within our society. It’s interesting that this question also created a frame that there was only one thing that we could do professionally.

Today, we are living in an age where it is far easier to engage in multiple businesses or combine knowledge across different professions to form new business ecosystems that can be as diverse as our abilities. We are in an era that affords us opportunities to serve many in the world with our abilities, translated into various integrated products. We have access to tools that enable us to start up businesses at a far lower cost than was previously possible.

Transitioning into the entrepreneurship journey is now a lot easier than ever before. The greatest obstacle for many people in making the transition into business is often an internal one. It is then followed by not knowing where to start and preferring to stay in the place that is comfortable and familiar, rather than step into new ways that require the risk of pivoting into the new and unknown.

Therefore, the journey of transitioning into entrepreneurship lies in resolving the internal hurdles. A journey that begins with reframing our mindset where debilitating limitations are set. It is then followed by creating a roadmap that provides clarity on the start point. Critical to undergird transition is courage to leave the familiar and step into the new.
