I have always loved travel. As I reflect back, I think what makes travel exciting for me is not only getting to the destination but planning the travel. I think of all the things I want to do when I get to my destination and work out the outfits I’ll need, work out what’s missing and shop for small bits to complete my preparation. I’m that traveler that will look up where I’m going on google maps, the map view, the street view, find all the landmarks around where I plan to stay. By the time I land and get to where I’m staying, I’m familiar with the area and ready to have a great time.
Similarly, when we begin to think about the journey as an entrepreneur, it is pretty similar. You need to determine where you want to go, what you need to get there. You’ll need to take stock of what is missing and find out how you can fill in the gaps. You will need to have a roadmap that has clear landmarks around what you want for your business. These will be what you will be looking for as key parameters along your entrepreneurial journey. One of the benefits of the business roadmap is that it helps you work out where you are in your journey, define your business based on the problem you are solving and identify the very right clients for you. With a business roadmap, you are able to identify potential opportunities and be strategic in your business activities. A roadmap will also enable you to be strategic as to where you invest your resources.
When you don’t know where to start crafting your entrepreneurial roadmap, it is incumbent on you to find coaches and mentors that will support your transition into the journey of business transformation that you desire.
